NEA-NH announced their backing of Leah Plunkett for District 2 Executive Council today.
“As a parent, educator and NEA-NH member, Leah knows first-hand how a high quality public education can change a student’s life for the better,” said Megan Tuttle, NEA-NH President. “That’s one of the many reasons why we are excited to recommend her. We know as a member of the Executive Council, Leah will be a fierce advocate for our public school students, staff and their families.”
The Executive Council provides a critical check on the governor, assessing state contracts, and vetting candidates for important positions such as agency heads, state board positions and judgeships; all of which have a tremendous impact on education and working families in New Hampshire.
Leah’s combined experience as an educator and progressive advocate was particularly important in making this recommendation.
“Leah has demonstrated she will have the ability to not only advocate effectively at the Executive Council table, but to also rally the community in this crucial role of Executive Councilor,” said Tuttle.
“We’re honored and humbled to receive the support of NEA New Hampshire, said Plunkett. “I’m the only educator in this race and the only union member. I’m also the only mom of two young kids–one already in our public school system, the other starting this fall. I know firsthand, both professionally and personally, how vital strong, equitable, and inclusive school systems are for Granite Staters of all ages. My entire career as a lawyer and a social justice activist, I’ve been on the front lines–never on the sidelines or in the back rooms. And as your next Executive Councilor, I will always be on the front lines of standing up for our educators, students, families, and building the strong twenty-first century workforce New Hampshire needs.”
NEA-NH will work over the coming months to engage with the thousands of its members across executive council district 2 about this recommendation and its importance of making their voices heard in the 2020 election
