NEA NH Statement on President Biden’s Vaccine Plan for Educators, Governor Sununu’s Decision to Continue to Make Teachers Wait

CONCORD, NH – On Wednesday, President Joe Biden announced that he is directing every state to prioritize COVID-19 vaccinations for front line educators, with the goal to have every teacher, school staff person, and childcare worker receive their first dose of one of the approved vaccines by the end of March.

Statement from Megan Tuttle, President of NEA New Hampshire: “We agree with President Biden that we need to treat in-person learning like the essential service that it is. Our frontline educators, from teachers to school staff to childcare workers, need to get vaccinated immediately. Like other frontline workers, we are regularly in close contact with a number of people outside of our own home and need this workplace protection to keep our educators healthy and our classrooms open.”

Governor Chris Sununu stated he will not prioritize teachers. Sununu is the only New England governor to not move up vaccination timelines for educators.

“We’re hoping that during his press conference later today the Governor will provide much more detail on his plan to rollout vaccines to educators to meet President Biden’s goal,” said Tuttle.
