Manchester, N.H. – Pointing to her strong advocacy for working families, public schools, and educators, NEA-New Hampshire—the largest labor union in New Hampshire — is officially recommending Stefany Shaheen in the Democratic primary for New Hampshire’s First Congressional District.

NEA-New Hampshire represents more than 16,000 teachers, education support professionals, higher education faculty, retired educators, and aspiring teachers in the state. NEA-NH is the fourth major labor union to recommend in the primary; the Teamsters Local 633, the American Federation of Teachers-New Hampshire, and IBEW 490 with all four backing Stefany Shaheen.

“Public education is the backbone of New Hampshire, and the 16,000 educators and school support professionals of NEA-NH are its heart. I look forward to standing shoulder-to-shoulder with them in Washington to deliver change for Granite State students, families, and workers,” said Shaheen. “Our public schools are getting squeezed by vouchers siphoning taxpayer money out of our classrooms, already high property taxes, and now health care costs are crushing municipal budgets.

"Costs for the basics – housing, health care, gas and groceries – are stretching family budgets past the breaking point. Meanwhile, billionaires and big corporate special interests are raking in tax breaks they don’t need. I am deeply honored to have earned NEA-NH’s recommendation because it reflects a shared understanding of what needs to be done to lift up New Hampshire families,” added Shaheen.

“NEA-New Hampshire is proud to recommend Stefany Shaheen for Congress because we know she will be a strong voice and vote for New Hampshire public school educators, our students, and our schools,” said Megan Tuttle, President of NEA-New Hampshire. “We look forward to working with Stefany Shaheen to ensure all Granite State students have access to a high-quality education, safe and welcoming public schools, and the support they need to thrive.”

With less than forty days until the primary on September 8th, momentum is building behind Stefany Shaheen’s campaign for Congress. In addition to NEA-NH, in just the last month, she’s earned support from the League of Conservation Voters, the American Federation of Teachers-New Hampshire, and GIFFORDs–the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
