CONCORD, N.H. – Today, Governor Kelly Ayotte joined students at Auburn Village School for a reading event with NEA-New Hampshire, where she read “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” and spoke with students about the importance of reading and lifelong learning. The visit highlighted the critical role literacy plays in preparing students for success in school and beyond and celebrated the work of educators and families who help foster a love of reading at an early age.
“Reading opens the door to imagination, opportunity and a lifetime of learning,” said Governor Ayotte. “It was wonderful to spend time with students at Auburn Village School and NEA-NH to celebrate the joy that comes from reading. We’re proud of New Hampshire’s fantastic schools, and we’ll keep working to make sure our children are mastering their reading skills to set them up for a lifetime of success.”

New Hampshire’s schools consistently rank among the best in the nation, and Governor Ayotte has made strengthening reading outcomes a priority for her administration. Recently, she directed Education Commissioner Caitlin Davis to undertake a new reading initiative to identify what schools with the highest number of students reading at grade level are doing, examine successful approaches used in other states, and apply those best practices statewide to help more students build strong reading skills.
