Educator Vaccine Update

The following information was given at the Governor’s Press Conference today: Beginning 3/12, schools can begin giving vaccines to staff. Check with your school district to see if they have plans to administer vaccines to staff.  This will most likely be the fastest and easiest way to receive your vaccine. The state’s Vaccine Management System, VMS, will start taking educator appointments on 3/17. If your schools district is not able to host a vaccination event, you can register on the VMS site starting then. Vaccines from these appointments will begin to be administered on 3/22. These vaccines will be given […]

If NH GOP Has its Way, We Won’t Even Be Allowed to Talk About Racism

New Hampshire lawmakers are debating a bill that would prevent educators from teaching about systemic racism and sexism in public schools and state-funded programs. This was the first line of an article in the Concord Monitor, published February 18, 2021. Read it again and note the century it was published. This is happening where we live right now and the bill’s sponsors are people our friends and neighbors voted for. Also from the Monitor; “HB 544, titled an act “relative to the propagation of divisive topics,” seeks to limit public schools, organizations or state contractors from discussing topics related to […]

Children’s Fund Steps in to Supply Thousands of Child-Sized Masks

Masks only work if they fit. Since the beginning of the pandemic, mask wearing has been recommended as an effective method of preventing the transmission of the virus. Many schools have required their students and staff to wear masks while in the building for in-person or hybrid learning scenarios. But masks only work if they fit. And for a growing number of schools returning to some form of in-person instruction, finding child-size masks was an issue. The Scott McGilvray Children’s Fund began offering free child-size masks to members in January and has so far distributed close to 4,000 masks to […]

The Dismal Record of Vouchers Leaves Communities and Students Behind

The Senate began hearings on their version of a massive expansion of vouchers in New Hampshire. SB 130 establishes an “education freedom account” – better known as vouchers. Earlier this year, the House version, HB20, met with overwhelming opposition and was tabled. NEA-New Hampshire President Megan Tuttle offered her testimony in opposition to SB130 today. A copy of that testimony is included below. Madame Chairwoman and Members of the Senate Education Committee, I come before you today, amplifying the voices of more than 17,000 educators across the state, strongly opposed to Senate Bill 130 and the implications it would have […]
