2021-2022 Martin Luther King Jr. Arts & Writing Contests

For students in Grades 5, 6, 7, & 8 The Martin Luther King Coalition has always considered involving youth an essential component of the community celebration of Martin Luther King Day. After all, in his most famous speech, one of Dr. King’s most poignant statements was the expression of his dream for the children: that they would one day be able to attend school & play together regardless of the colors of their skin. Therefore, from its early years, the Coalition has invited all children from the state of New Hampshire to participate in the celebration, initially through an Arts […]

NEA-NH Recommends Education Champion Hilliard for Somersworth Mayor

CONCORD, NH – OCTOBER 25, 2021- During his time as Mayor of Somersworth, Mayor Hilliard has used his voice as an elected leader to fight for more funding for public education and partnered with NEA-NH to expose school voucher schemes that threaten to damage our kids’ education and raise property taxes. Mayor Hilliard’s track record as a leader in this regard has earned him the support of NEA-NH, the only statewide organization that represents the Hilltop city’s educators. “We’ve always maintained that educator voices should be heard as decisions are being made that impact our students and classrooms. As an […]

Letters from Members: Not Up to the Challenge

This letter is in response to Rep. Moffett’s recent words and actions.  He suggested that his party is the one that should be trusted to oversee the education of our children to ensure they are successful in the 21st Century. He also stated that the NEA does not have the best interest of our students and educators at its core. With all due respect, Rep. Moffett, you are incorrect on both counts. Those who disparage my Union tell me that “we love teachers – we just don’t like it when they band together.” These words sound innocent, but they undermine […]

NEA-NH: Today’s Adoption of Lax Voucher Rules Another Example of Fiscal Malpractice and Failed Leadership

CONCORD, NH – August 27, 2011 – Today’s vote by the State Board of Education to adopt lax oversight rules for the massive voucher expansion recently signed into law by Governor Sununu puts New Hampshire on an accelerated and dangerous path to defund our public schools. One that consistently ends poorly in states that have passed similar laws. Private schools in Florida now rake in close to $1 billion a year in public money. A voucher scheme like the one recently enacted here in New Hampshire is responsible for this dramatic diversion of public funds to help wealthy families in […]
