TAKE ACTION: Politicized Courts Threaten Students, Schools, and Communities

As the nation mourns the loss of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Senate Majority Leader McConnell and President Trump are rushing to replace her on the court. The next president must nominate Justice Ginsburg’s replacement after the people have spoken. We are just more than 40 days away from Election Day, with people voting all across the nation even now about who will nominate the new Supreme Court Justice. Under no circumstances should the Senate consider a replacement for Justice Ginsburg until after inauguration. In order to have a Supreme Court that is just and fair, we need […]

NEA-NH Statement on Executive Council Board of Education Vote

The State Board of Education is responsible for providing leadership and oversight to our education system. This requires experience in education, whether that be prior service on a school board, in  school administration or as an educator in a classroom; a demonstrated commitment and advocacy around advancing educational policies and outcomes; or any other activity that indicates the nominee has the experience and expertise to best serve our state’s children, the vast majority of whom attend public schools. NEA-NH routinely opposes nominations that do not demonstrate a background in public education or the expertise to guide the 167 school districts […]

NEA-NH Recommends Plunkett for District 2 Council Seat

NEA-NH announced their backing of Leah Plunkett for District 2 Executive Council today. “As a parent, educator and NEA-NH member, Leah knows first-hand how a high quality public education can change a student’s life for the better,” said Megan Tuttle, NEA-NH President. “That’s one of the many reasons why we are excited to recommend her. We know as a member of the Executive Council, Leah will be a fierce advocate for our public school students, staff and their families.”  The Executive Council provides a critical check on the governor, assessing state contracts, and vetting candidates for important positions such as […]

Educators See Senate Passage of SB556 Important Step in Addressing School Violence

NEA-NH applauds the Senate’s action passing SB 556 today, that, among other things, requires school safety programs to contain a plan for responding to violent acts, reporting all acts of violence, and utilizing the joint loss management committee each district already has in place to address protocols for employees to follow.  “Last year we came to the legislature to support the formation of the study committee because day after day we heard heart breaking story of New Hampshire educators being injured by students,” said Megan Tuttle, President of NEA-New Hampshire. “Today’s students, through no fault of their own, are coming […]

Census Resources for Educators – Everyone Counts

The importance of the U.S. Census to the well-being of children and the strength of their public schools cannot be overstated. Using census data, the federal government allocates tens of billions of dollars in education funds to states and localities annually using formulas that factor in population and poverty levels. An accurate census count is the critical first step to helping educators address the needs of every child who walks through their doors. The census count happens only once every 10 years; when we undercount young children, the consequences can last most of their childhood. NEA has collected census resources […]
