Building the Profession By Mentoring and Coaching Aspiring Educators

Accomplished educators open their workspace, their classroom to mentor and coach beginning educators. These experienced professionals pave the way for Aspiring Educators to become teachers, speech clinicians, school nurses, counselors, and more every semester. These roles require an internship or a student teaching/intern experience.  In New Hampshire, more than 500 students matriculate through College of Education programs in public and private colleges and universities each year.

Michelle Jeannotte, a supporting teacher and local president from Northwood EA shared, “This is a way to pay it forward.” She became an educator at a later stage of life and was so impressed by the educator who paved the way for her to become a teacher. Michelle Jeannotte declared, “It is a joy watch people put into practice what they have learned in the classroom.” She hit the jackpot because her student teaching experience helped her land a long-term substitute position and eventually a teaching position in the same school where she gained experience teaching.

The intern was invited to belong to the united education profession through membership in NEA-New Hampshire. Michelle Jeannotte is called an Active Member and her intern is an NEA Aspiring Educator.   Contact your local association’s membership chair for details about helping an intern/practicing educator become an NEA Aspiring Educator.

Becoming a supporting teacher or providing an internship is one way to help shape the education profession. NEA-New Hampshire members are doing the work of the Association when they reach out to help others succeed.
