NEA-NH Priorities for Public Education

We ask only what is right: equal opportunity for every student, every educator, every family. Committed to Improving Student Achievement and Education Quality Our students’ job is to learn, and our job is to make sure they can. Our democracy will flourish only when we ensure every school is fully funded, every child is treated with dignity, and every learner can pursue their passion. We must pass laws and policies that push forward the arc of justice–laws that protect all children’s access to a great public education, regardless of age, background, need, or zip code. As a civilized society focused […]

Educator Vaccines to Begin March 12

The good news is, starting March 12, educators across New Hampshire can receive their COVID vaccine. We’d like to thank President Biden for his efforts to dramatically increase the availability of vaccines and to direct that essential education workers be vaccinated by the end of March. Many school districts have already announced their plans to host clinics for their staff – some as early as the 12th.  Please check with your district to see if they plan on hosting such an event and be sure to take advantage of the opportunity. If your district is not planning on hosting such […]

Educator Vaccine Update

The following information was given at the Governor’s Press Conference today: Beginning 3/12, schools can begin giving vaccines to staff. Check with your school district to see if they have plans to administer vaccines to staff.  This will most likely be the fastest and easiest way to receive your vaccine. The state’s Vaccine Management System, VMS, will start taking educator appointments on 3/17. If your schools district is not able to host a vaccination event, you can register on the VMS site starting then. Vaccines from these appointments will begin to be administered on 3/22. These vaccines will be given […]

If NH GOP Has its Way, We Won’t Even Be Allowed to Talk About Racism

New Hampshire lawmakers are debating a bill that would prevent educators from teaching about systemic racism and sexism in public schools and state-funded programs. This was the first line of an article in the Concord Monitor, published February 18, 2021. Read it again and note the century it was published. This is happening where we live right now and the bill’s sponsors are people our friends and neighbors voted for. Also from the Monitor; “HB 544, titled an act “relative to the propagation of divisive topics,” seeks to limit public schools, organizations or state contractors from discussing topics related to […]

Children’s Fund Steps in to Supply Thousands of Child-Sized Masks

Masks only work if they fit. Since the beginning of the pandemic, mask wearing has been recommended as an effective method of preventing the transmission of the virus. Many schools have required their students and staff to wear masks while in the building for in-person or hybrid learning scenarios. But masks only work if they fit. And for a growing number of schools returning to some form of in-person instruction, finding child-size masks was an issue. The Scott McGilvray Children’s Fund began offering free child-size masks to members in January and has so far distributed close to 4,000 masks to […]

NEA NH Statement on President Biden’s Vaccine Plan for Educators, Governor Sununu’s Decision to Continue to Make Teachers Wait

CONCORD, NH – On Wednesday, President Joe Biden announced that he is directing every state to prioritize COVID-19 vaccinations for front line educators, with the goal to have every teacher, school staff person, and childcare worker receive their first dose of one of the approved vaccines by the end of March. Statement from Megan Tuttle, President of NEA New Hampshire: “We agree with President Biden that we need to treat in-person learning like the essential service that it is. Our frontline educators, from teachers to school staff to childcare workers, need to get vaccinated immediately. Like other frontline workers, we […]
