This workshop will cover numerous issues our members are experiencing with complying with Special Education Laws and providing the best education for their students. Have you been pulled from your regular assignment to cover other emergencies? Have you been told not to make suggestions during an IEP meeting or not to refer students? Are you having difficulty getting guidance on behavior management plans to deal with runaways and violent students considering the restraint law restrictions? Have you experienced hostility for making suggestions to parents about program alternatives? If any of this sounds familiar, this presentation is for you! Understanding New Hampshire’s Restraint Law

The topic of this workshop is NH RSA 126-U, New Hampshire’s Child Restraint Law. The goal of the workshop is for educators to understand the law and how to comply with it. This is done through a guided discussion of the law and common scenarios where the law applies. NEA-NH Staff Attorneys Esther Kane Dickinson and Lauren Snow Chadwick will also go over strategies for educators to advocate for themselves, their colleagues, and their students within the limits of the law.
Light snacks will be available. Plan to arrive a few minutes early to refresh and relax with your colleagues.
