Plymouth, Manchester and Gorham are sites for the next in a series of trainings for NH educators seeking to prevent youth violence through media literacy education through an initiative of NH Governor Maggie Hassan and the Office of the NH Attorney General.

Please join Media Power Youth for a FREE media literacy curriculum training. All attendees who complete the training will receive 8 professional development hoursand all school professionals will receive a copy of the curriculum at no cost.
Media Literacy for Safe and Healthy Choices is designed to be delivered by upper elementary school staff. This may be a classroom teacher, a teaching team, guidance, health, media specialists or others.
The program has a strong focus on literacy, discussion, analysis, reflection and critical thinking skills. Lessons include hands on creation of media with healthy messages. Additionally, the curriculum includes supplemental activities to build media literacy skills across multiple content areas.
Media Literacy for Safe and Healthy Choices has been evaluated in the Manchester schools by the Center on Media and Child Health (Children’s Hospital Boston, Harvard School of Public Health and Harvard Medical School). Evaluation results have been published in theJournal of Children and Media, May 2012. Program objectives are aligned with Common Core, and meet national and state learning standards in multiple disciplines.
