CONCORD, NH (February 12, 2014) – NEA-New Hampshire, the state’s largest union, announced their endorsement of Mike Cryans for Executive Council today, asking their more than 2700 members in District 1, and their families, to support Cryans during the campaign and on Election Day.
“The similarities between Cryans’ and Ray Burton’s backgrounds and support for public education make this recommendation easy. Both were educators who dedicated their lives to public service at the local and county level where they were best able to help their constituents,” said NEA-NH President Scott McGilvray. “Working in the classroom gives a candidate a unique perspective on a wide range of issues besides those affecting education. It is this broad experience that prepared Councilor Burton to deal with the many and varied issues he dealt with so well.”
“Mike Cryans has this same experience and he will work as tirelessly for his constituents as did Ray. We recognize that the North Country needs a fighter who is not committed to an extreme political agenda.”
McGilvray cited Cryans’ opponent’s support for diverting funds for public schools to private religious schools and his support for legislation that would have allowed parents to micromanage each school’s curriculum as examples of that extreme political agenda.
“NEA-NH proudly recommended Ray Burton to serve as the Executive Councilor is District 1. No one will be able to fill his shoes but Mike Cryans will put his constituents over ideology and will work tirelessly for them. That is exactly the tradition educators want to see continue in the Executive Council,” concluded McGilvray
